Cell phones at school Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Cell phones at school - Essay Example Cell phones should be allowed in schools. The simple fact is that cell phones make the campus a safer place to be. During these perilous times, that consideration should be of the highest priority. In an emergency like a fire or terrorist incident, students with cell phones are able to immediately communicate with police and other authorities. This provides for a rapid response to any emergency; one that could shave precious minutes off of the time it would take to notify an administrator, have the staff member verify the emergency, and then phone officials. The classic example of this position is the tragedy that happened at Columbine High School. When two students started using guns on their instructors and classmates, "students and teachers began phoning to alert police of a shooting going on...[and] a teacher on a cell phone desperately pleaded for rescue with the police as she simultaneously shouted at her students" to stay down (Breggin, 2000, pp. 4-5). The fact that there were several groups of students located in is olated areas of the large campus makes the case for cell phones at school; they were able to be safely rescued by police as a direct result of their ability to call and advise them of their location and status. While such extreme situations occur rarely, when they do take place, cell phones in the hands of the students can save lives. The prima

Business#2 Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Business#2 - Essay Example But this is not the case. For instance, while bribery is illegal in Indonesia, its public officials are susceptible to the act because the government pays them low wages. In a case study, Richard R. Gesteland, Georg F. Seyk (2002) documented: A foreign company headquartered in Singapore had to send technicians to Indonesian factories on a regular basis. About half of the companyââ¬â¢s techs had to slip a fifty dollar bill to the Jakarta airport immigration official on duty in order to get an entry visa stamped in their passports. (p. 79) Sometimes cultural factors also come into play wherein norms in some countries dictate gift-giving or entertainment as important in transacting business. This is partly the reason why the degree as to which bribery is perceived as immoral is different from country to country. People who engage in bribery points to this fact, arguing that there is a blurry line between bribery and simple gift-giving: In the US, for instance, there are several kinds of payments that fall on the borderline of legality and illegality. In light of all these, bribery is customarily considered an unethical activity and, rightfully, the act is outlawed in all countries. (Donaldson & Dundee 1999, p. 225) No society can have the custom of bribery, because by its nature it is a covert practice that involves unfairness, harm to some and unearned benefit to others. Wojciech Gasparski and Leo Ryan (1996) stressed that bribery can never be justified as ethically proper because it is a means by which people get special treatment in preference to others for no other reason that that they pay bribes. (p. 332) Bribery corrupts both the giver and the receiver. Furthermore, it undercuts efficiency in the market, skews the allocation of goods and resources, often imposes unjust costs on third parties, and leads to further corruption, since such payments are not legal and cannot be reported using generally accepted accounting procedures. Presentation of World War II in Band of Brothers :: essays research papers
Band of Brothers is a fascinating show that captures moments lived by soldiers during World War II. It specifically relates to the history of soldiers called Easy Company. They are faced with numerous challenges and tragedies everyday. They stuck together and helped each other out, while also trying to survive themselves. The problem was that it was very difficult to keep sane, when you are literally watching people die left and right, even worse you have limited supplies. To be honest I never thought much of WWII until I saw Band of Brothers. They did a good job of really showing, the horrific side of the war. Even though the war needed to happen it was not at all an easy thing for these soldiers. I was aware that many deaths occurred, but I had never realized the way the soldiers died. My perception of the war changed dramatically. I felt the heartbreak of the soldier who watched others die. I can only imagine the broken lives of the families back home that found out they lost their loved ?one. The conditions, in which the soldiers fought for our country, were unbearable. It was disturbing to see them dig holes and literally sleep and live in them. They had no real shelter. The soldiers did not even have gloves, or even a good warm heavy coat. One of the soldiers in the movie had to keep his blood flowing by pinching his hand to make it bleed because he had no gloves. The part that made me realize how much they needed supplies was when the soldier was using his helmet on top of the fire to heat things up. Because of the lack of clothing soldiers were unable to fight because of things like trench foot, which had no cure but amputation. The graphic points of the film were what really got me. It was insane how within minutes you could be dead. The sad part was that most of the soldiers who died could have lived if they had the proper medical supplies, attention, and space. The soldiers had to pick up their injured bloody friends and slowly watch them die on their way to the nurse. The worst part is that they knew they had no chance once they got to the nurse. I felt sympathy for the nurses because these soldiers? lives were in their hands.

Saving Time
When the clock passes one minute, the previous time would be history and there was no way to go back to time. I'm the kind of person who value every single minute in my life. I didn't mind to spend a long amount of time to do something that was meaningful, but I would not waste my time to do something that I considered useless or wasting time. Last summer one of my friends spent her whole summer going to school. She took few classes at Mesa College. She tried to finish school as fast as she could by taking as much classes as she can over the school year and summer as well. I always give her advice about rushing through college, because you can miss the important things in life by rushing through it. I prefer to spend half of the summer to go to school and the other half enjoying the summer. For example, last year I spent the first eight weeks of my summer break taking three classes at SDSU. After that I spent the rest of the summer go out with my friends, camping, and parties. In three months of that summer, I could take extra class for college and also have fun at the same time. Most people think that eating fast food can save time, however, I prefer spending two hour at home cooking my own meal rather than eating at a restaurant or a fast food store. When you eat at a restaurant you can't have the same feeling as eating at home because the satisfaction, the energy and thought is not in the meal that you eat. For instance, when you cook a meal for your love one such as friends, and family. You would put all your thought and energy to make a good meal to share with them. My sister always likes to do everything ahead of time. Whenever her professor assign any project that is due in one week, she would stay up late at night to finish it on the first day. Sometime I asked her ââ¬Å"Why did you all these stuff so early, when it not due until next week?â⬠Then my sister just smiled and told me that she tried to save time because she didn't like to take time doing one thing. She rather finishes one thing ahead of time then goes on with another thing. However, I didn't think it was a good idea to save time, because my sister uses her sleeping hour to do something that she consider save time. She just not cares about her health at all, which was very important thing in our life. Many people seemed to waste their time on unnecessary things in life. Time should be a value moment in life. Use the time wisely because if you rush through things in life you to achieve something, you might not know you have missed. However, if you spend a long amount of time on doing something that was worthless, then it would be a waste of time. Treasure each moment in our life because once time pass, that previous moment in our life would be history. Saving Time Name: Adil chahib Saving Time Time management determines by the difference between successful and unsuccessful people. Successful people are able to balance the goals they wish to achieve and duties. And this success comes from their ability to their time optimally in light of their objectives. There are two types in our lives: Type I: A difficult time organizing, or managing how much time we spend in our basic needs such as eating, comfort, family relations and social mission. It is a time cannot use it a lot in what has been designated a degree of importance to keeping equilibrium in our life.Type II: Time that can be organized and managed to devote to work, our own lives. Can we take advantage of this time? Can we optimize our productivity? Before I give some advices for time management. I have to describe some of the reasons wasting time. Time wasting is defined as: all that prevents you from effectively achieve your goals. ââ¬â Planning: means the lack of goals and prioritie s, Overemphasis on priorities, leave the activity before the expiry of it, the lack of a deadline for the completion, trying to accomplish too much at one time. Organization: Disorganization Profile, do the job more than once, repeated efforts without result, the lack of clarity of the authority and responsibility, there is more than one president for one employee. ââ¬â Employment: Problems for staff, untrained staff and Non-appropriate, rehabilitation higher or lower than desired. ââ¬â Implementation: The desire to complete the work alone, a decrease in the level of stimulus, Inability to manage conflict. ââ¬â Control: The absence of regulatory standards, the absence of administrative efficiency. Communications: Lack of communication clarity vertical and horizontal, no organization meetings, misunderstandings. ââ¬â Decision-making: Postponement, Poor decisions. Humans are not able to organize their time without clear goals, plans and priorities. Planning is forward looking, work oriented . The future, that is, it begins with setting the access point, Then draw the way leading up to this point. Doing the work program (notebook) to achieve your goals at short (one year, for example) stating the business tasks and responsibilities that will accomplish, and the dates of the beginning and the end of completion, and timing of personalâ⬠¦ tc. Here are some points to help us develop saving time: -Type the reason that leads to the loss of your time. ââ¬â Number of problems usually caused by wasting time. ââ¬â Stop using fake excuses such as the need for more information. A day contains twenty-four hours and this is enough for others to manage large enterprises, but for some it is not enough to manage simple, taking advantage of the time determines the difference between success and failure. Success means achieving a balance between the objectives and duties required under the means available, and so through time management or other self-man agement.Concerning the time at work, there are many employees come to the meetings or the office just for wasting the time, and wasting other peopleââ¬â¢s time. Working too many hours, or be present in all meetings doesnââ¬â¢t justify the quality of work. According to Robert C. Pozen (June 15, 2012),ââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬â¢be prepared to say no to requests that donââ¬â¢t matter ââ¬Ëââ¬â¢ (Stop Working All Those Hours). And it is good to saving time if we: Decline meeting: means do not accept to be in meetings and explain the workload and request to see the meetingââ¬â¢s ones. Also delete emails: not all of them. But only keep and respond to the most important ones. Finally dial down the effort: means if we cannot say ââ¬Ëââ¬â¢noââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬â¢ to a certain request, recognize that it may only require a B+ effort. Itââ¬â¢s not easy to save time at work because there are some factors affecting time as: Pressure by superiors, Pressures of work on the part of subordina tes, Pressure resulting from the nature and conditions of work, Pressure resulting from planning, Pressures resulting from organization, Pressure regulator. According to Alex Chris, (October 24, 2012), ââ¬Ëââ¬â¢there are 9 ways to manage the time at work: -write in a piece of paper. -concentrate on the important activities find productive time. -do not postpone things for later. -start a job and finish it without interruption. -delegate jobs to other people. -schedule a communication. -organize the office. ââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬â¢(www. manageyourlifenow. com). Sometimes we need rest and break to achieve the goal, so what we do is close the computer, close the phone, shut down the TV or anything that makes noise. Take a short nap. That gives more energy for every day. Also sleeping at night is better. What I understood from these ways is if we want to manage our time well, we have to look for efficacy and efficiencies.Efficacy: to perform work properly and reach the desired result. Eff iciency: the performance of work in the right way and getting to the desired result, but with minimal effort, time and cost. we need to profit and Exploit marginal times, times between commitments and actions (such as: the use of the car, waiting at the doctor, travel, waiting for meals, expected visitors). We must know How we spend time, then decompose and identify times marginal, and develop a plan of operation to benefit them as much as possible. Also do not give up urgent for the things unnecessary. According to Cameron Chapman ââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬â¢bellow are sixteen tips to help us better managing our time: 1) Get organized. 2) Separate work Space from Everything-Else Space. 3) Take advantage of time management tools. 4) Set goals. 5) Set deadlines. 6) Plane Ahead. 7) Prioritize. 8) Delegate or outsource. 9) Optimize your processes. 10) Learn to say ââ¬Ëââ¬â¢noââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬â¢. 11) Learn when you work beast. 12) Set regular working hours. 13) Donââ¬â¢t waste time 14) Avoid m ultitasking. 15) Take frequent breaks. 16) Maintain. ââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬â¢Set deadlines are very important if we want to stop procrastination, so we can make a schedule with clear due dates then follow the calendar. We understand from these tips that Time is precious. Therefore, we must profit from time as well as we can, properly, and ultimately there are a few tips, as some scientists say helps us very wiling example: Focus on the target at all times , know our goal, be aware of our goal and then we will feel accomplishment when we complete each task, remember what seeks clearly in our mind, we will realize then that it is necessary to work hard to get things done. Also Keep our mental and physical health, it is necessary to do the best delivery systems and our time for a better life, it leads to good health and the life of the organization, we need for good health to enjoy the achievements should also be good. Nothing is more important than our health, keeping our self in good health g ives us energy, endurance, and also makes us more open-minded and less tense, and exercise make us think better (Sports Life).Be an observer on our self, and the easiest way to develop self-motivation is to keep a clear vision of our goal all the time, the goal is the reason for doing what we do now, Always remember the goal, nothing is seeking to achieve, in order to give us the fuel needed to overcome the difficulties. The Drug Rehab Of Utah - 1454 Words
Drug Rehab in Utah When searching for a drug rehab in Utah it is a good idea to narrow down the search by inpatient or outpatient treatment programs. Many people find it helpful to speak with someone in the addiction rehabilitation profession; such as an intake counselor, to determine which type of program will be the best fit. Important factors to consider when making this decision are: â⬠¢ Is the addicted person willing or able to move into a treatment facility? If the answer is no, then outpatient treatment will be the only route to pursue. If they are willing to enroll in an inpatient program, it is best to begin searching inpatient drug rehab programs in Utah. Statistically, inpatient programs have the highest success rates for helping their clients achieve and maintain their sobriety. â⬠¢ Does the program provide detoxification services? When a person is physically addicted to drugs or alcohol it is important they receive detoxification prior to beginning their treatment program. This ensures the substances are out of their system. Completing detox also prepares the program participant for the process of recovery both mentally and physically. â⬠¢ Location? Many people find that attending a rehab that is not located near their ââ¬Å"stomping groundsâ⬠or close to home is beneficial. This is best suited for individuals willing to enroll in an inpatient drug rehab in Utah. â⬠¢ How will treatment be paid for? The Adventures Of Mr. Obadiah Oldbuck Essay - 1201 Words
Dating back to 1841, modern comics have had a long history. Since The Adventures of Mr. Obadiah Oldbuck, which is generally accepted as the first American comic, comics as a genre of literature has changed both technologically and in perception (Greenberger). Throughout American history, comics have served as both an influence and a reflection of the time period. As America grew, changed, and experienced major historical events, society and the ideas within changed along with it. Many comic historians cite Genovese author and painter Rodolph Tà ¶pffer as the first modern comic artist (ââ¬Å"Comics Theoryâ⬠). Tà ¶pffer is the author of a comic titled Histoire de M. Vieux Bois, which was published in 1839. This was eventually translated in 1841 to the first American comic The Adventures of Mr. Obidiah Oldbuck (Greenberger). Though this was the first comic published in America, it cannot be said to reflect American history very well since it was not originally written in America. Instead, it was first published in Europe before gaining widespread popularity in the United States (Tà ¶pffer 2014). Years later in 1894, the first significant recurring comic strip character The Yellow Kid debuted (Greenberger). Created by Richard Outcault, The Yellow Kid was seen as the beginning of the ââ¬Å"Funniesâ⬠, the name given to comic strips in newspapers at the time (ââ¬Å"Comic Theoryâ⬠). The Bubble Economy. The Direct Cause Of The Japanese Banking
The Bubble Economy The direct cause of the Japanese banking crisis was the collapse of the asset price bubble during the late 1980s to the early 1990s. During 1980s, sustained economic growth and low inflation rate were the main characteristics of macroeconomic environment in Japan. This condition caused the upward growth expectations of asset prices, uncontrolled credit expansion and financial deregulation. At the same period, the United States has a substantial increase in the current account deficit and a sharp increase in the foreign trade deficit. In order to depreciate the U.S. dollar by intervening in currency markets, five countries including France, West Germany, Japan, the United States and the United Kingdom signed the Plazaâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦At the same time, these financial institutions may loosen their credit standards in order to get higher loan market share. As a consequence, their lending decisions were based more on collateral requirements rather than cash-flow analysis. In order to accelerate credit-check procedures for loan approval, many banks transferred the responsibility for loan-risk evaluation from their credit-investigation bureaus to less independent monitoring bureaus reporting directly to the banksââ¬â¢ sales divisions. The second problem is the defects in corporate governance of Japanese banks. First, because of the structure of bank ownership, few shareholders own the majority of the total shares, most shareholders have modest control over the management of banks. Second, shareholders lack of incentive so it is difficult for them to against managementsââ¬â¢ decisions. Third, the internal and external audit was very limited. Besides, the central bank in Japan has also been criticized for its role in aggravating the bubble economy.
